Central Heating and Hot Water

The house is heated by electric heaters. These are very effective at keeping the house warm. These are on a timer. If the house is too hot turn off some of the heaters at the wall next to the heater. If you need to re-programme them it is a little complicated but a good instruction video can be found here.
The hot water is thermostatically controlled. If you need more hot water press the boost control in the hall. Half an hour is usually enough.

The sitting room can get very hot if the fire and radiator are on at the same time. When using the fire it is often a good idea to turn the radiator off.

Cot and Highchair

There is a cot and high chair available. Please let us know before your stay and they will be left our for you.

We would be very grateful if you would clean these when used.

Wood burning stove and fire bowel

The handle of the wood burning stove in the sitting room gets hot, please use the glove provided. The manual for the stove can be found here. There is a supply of logs in the log store behind the garage.

The fire bowl is in the wood shed and barbecue is in the garage. It is essential that these are used safely. Please be aware of wind condition, do not leave unattended and ensure that all young people are adequately supervised. Please ensure that is extinguished completely when you go to bed, there is a bucket for ashes.

Please do not use the fire bowl on the grass, the heat burns the grass.

It is also very important that you are careful about levels of noise and please be mindful of your neighbours

Summerhouse and pizza oven

The wood burning stove in the summerhouse can be used as a mini pizza oven. The pizza shelf is in the storage box in the summerhouse. The instructions are there as well. The pizzas are small, 10 inches but good fun to make and cook.

Smaller logs for the wood burner are in the log store. Please be careful with burning wood, the summerhouse if made of wood! It is useful to read the manual, page 21 has information about cooking and can be found here.

The lights in the summerhouse (and in the garden) are controlled by a light sensor and will come on at dusk. If you would like them on before then pop round to the back of the garage outside and there is a box with a light on. Press the up ⬆️ or down  ⬇️ until the number on the screen goes to 0. This is the lights on all the time. Please put the number back to 6 when you are finished.

Cluster Flies

Cluster flies are commonly found in quiet, undisturbed parts of your home, such as attics and wall voids. They are common in rural areas such as Boat of Garten. They require warm places to hibernate over winter.
You may see a group of cluster flies around a window, as they are attracted to the light on sunny winter days (spring and autumn). These are treated regularly by Rentokil (www.rentokil.co.uk) and are no cause for concern.
